I want to install Expression Engine for an existing website. Can I upload EE to that domain and begin the design process or will it overwrite the existing website? Individual page url’s for the new site would be different than the existing site, so that may not be an issue. But what about the main site home (index) page?

If this won’t work, what’s the best procedure so that I can get the new site up and running and then move it to the final url destination? Thanks!

Hi Gordy,

You can install ExpressionEngine in a subdirectory (e.g. http://yoursite.com/ee/) and set up everything up and get it working. When it comes time to launch you can move the site to the root of the domain.

You could also set up a subdomain (http://ee.yoursite.com) and run it from there until you’re ready for launch.
