Doesn’t look like you are getting a lot of help. You posted this question over 2 weeks ago and no response. I’m having the same problem. I admit I’m a total idiot and Ruby newbie, but I’ve posted questions to the local Ruby users group with no response.

I keep reading how active the Ruby users community is, but I’m not seeing it.

There don’t seem to be any Prag Prog books on basic Ruby/Rails debugging techniques. The appendices just say to post questions.

I’m getting fairly discouraged.

i find about class <<obj>
but the example file (not that in book) about condition variable shows this inner class:

class <<Time alias old_now now def now old_now.to_f * FACTOR end
end

And running the code Time.now uses this definition.

I would like some explanation how this works.
