Why was jQuery templates used when backbone.js has a template system for itself? Moreover since the videos start without using any template system at all… Does this have to do with the backbone version being used?

Backbone seems to be about structuring JavaScript stuff, less about providing components.

jQuery template is a component, that is easily integrated with Backbone.
