Shipping posted by Chris Williams @ Fri, 14 Dec 2007 23:09:35 -0000

Still hasn’t shipped… This is just sad. Means it won’t ship until maybe Monday.. probably not, and with the holidays coming who knows if I’ll get it in 5 days, then closed on the holidays, so maybe, just maybe, I’ll get it by the 1st of the year.

I emailed support and was basically told it will ship when we get it.

Nice.

Hey,

The book was up-to-date on Prototype and Scripty at PDF release time, which was on Nov 7, a sync release with Prototype 1.6 and script.aculo.us 1.8. It is definitely the most current, comprehensive coverage of both libs to date. As a matter of fact, the single piece of information missing from it is the
stopped
property on
Event
objects, which made it in a few days before release, during indexing, and escaped my notice somehow despite my monitoring of the SVN commits. I’m sure you’ll agree that’s no big deal!

The release date for paper was never set in stone (the site used to say “on or around Dec. 5”, for the simple reason that it is dependent on many factors external to PragProg, including printer scheduling, etc.

I’m sorry you’re feeling the delay, but there’s not much editors can do when the material world constraints come to bear.

If you can’t wait to get your hands on the book, I’d suggest getting the PDF, or having bought the combo from day one. At barely $9 of extra, it’s a great way to enjoy both the paper readability and the electronic searchability/hyperlinking/syntax-coloring.

Crossing my fingers for you,

Christophe (no trailing ‘r’, by the way)

Christopher,

I can only hope that the “release date” being moved means that they took extra time in getting the most recent information available into the book… 7 Days after estimated ship date is a little off to me… I should have received it and be into it by that date, now I’ll have to wait for my slow shipping even after that. So it’s possible I’ll have my book 14 days after the given release date, maybe later. At least I know what to tell people to expect if I recommend books from here.

Thanks for checking up on it for me though,

Hey again Chris,

A recent update tells me the final release date is tomorrow, Monday December 10. They also tell me actual shipping should start 2 days after that, so on Wednesday. I suggest you monitor your order page until Thursday morning, and if it still doesn’t show as shipped, fire off a nice enquiring e-mail to Prag.

‘HTH

Hey Chris,

Last I heard, the final paper availability date was today, Dec 7. Smack one month after PDF release… I can only hope it’s still valid. Do not hesitate to ping customer support for more info.
