“If this were printed, I would buy it immediately. I like to have a physical library of books on hand. Not so much into PDFs and wouldn’t pay for one.” -David J.

While the last part there does not apply for me, the rest does. Also, like Daniel Sperl I performed many online searches for info on this book. It was only after reading his post that I learned this book has no printed counterpart.

So please, Dave and Andy, we want a printed version.

I’d love to have a printed version, too!

And, BTW: it would be great if you added the information that the book is ONLY available for download prominently on the book’s info page. I searched quite a while at Amazon and other stores because I was not aware of that, and did not find it!

Thanks in advance!
Daniel

Basic misconceptions about electricity posted by Michele Mendel @ Thu, 04 Feb 2010 09:56:52 +0000

I have just started reading the book, but already found the common misconceptions (we all learned in school) about the basics of electricity.

One example is “flowing current”. This is actually very confusing, since a current is a flow and not something that can flow.

Also, capacitors store energy, not charge. The charge is there all the time.

Here is one site helping us understand electricity – http://amasci.com/miscon/eleca.html.

Typos and Errors posted by Tony Williamitis @ Wed, 30 Dec 2009 17:33:40 +0000

I just bought this ebook a few days ago and have read the entire book. It was more basic than I was hoping but my complaint is the tremendous quantity of errors, several of which could have been caught by merely running a spellchecker. It is surprising that in version 1.2 of a book such fundamental mistakes as double words and missing conjunctions would persist. I spotted literally 100 errors. I would have painstakingly submitted them all but I saw that submissions from previous editions were still not fixed in 1.2.
I feel as though I was reading a rough draft. I hope that before the next release, an editor will read the copy because it could all be fixed in 1 day by any competent editor. If I had an editable copy I would have turned on revision mode and fixed it for you as a public service. This is not up to the quality level of a Pragmatic book.

I’d love a printed copy, loads of low quality books around with many color plates, how do they manage it ?

Worst ways make the less important images greyscale and have a few colour plates.

I’m sure theres a market and profit for exactly this type of book, lots of pictures is an even greater reason to print rather than PDF it.

I can’t stand reading PDF’s for more than a few minutes, for learning a subject a printed book is far superior. A quality book like this would also have some long term value.

I also agree it would make an excellent gift for techies.

Come on pragmatic programmer’s ! Get this printed and out for next christmas !

Facebooker : missing option "size" for publishUserAction posted by Alexis Sukrieh @ Mon, 26 Jan 2009 10:16:22 +0000

Hello,

I’m using Facebooker for writing a Facebook app and I must say it’s pretty well designed. I’m facing an issue though, with the feed publishing facilities :

I have registered a feed “user_action” with two sizes: one line and short story. The publisher manages to publish the feed entry, but always in the “one line” size.

After reading the documentation of the underlying Facebook API call, publishUserAction, I’ve realized this is because of the optional paramter “size” which is “one line” if not specified.

I cannot find how to tell my Facebooker publisher to set this parameter to “short story”.

This has the annoying effect of always publishing one line stories to user feeds, even if they granted the “short story” size…

Anyone has already managed to do that? How can I tell my publisher to deliver with the “short story” size?

Thanks !

Not that I’m such a big fan of killing trees, but there is just so many places you can’t read a PDF, where you could have read a printed book.

Perhaps the showstopper is the missing ebook reader.
