Gets method doesn't accept input

I am using the one click installer and running SciTE to run my scripts
Using Windows XP

When I write a script that contains the gets method, and try to run the script by pressing F5 in SciTE, a command prompt window opens from c:\Ruby\bin\ruby.exe. The window will not accept input of any kind, and when I exit or close the command prompt window, I get an exit code of -1073741510 at the end of the output on the right hand side.None of the code gets executed.

Is there something I have done wrong during the installation. There seems to be an I/O error in the SciTE programming.
