Following the examples in the book using MarkLogic 4.2-1 I get the following error:

500 Internal Server Error

XDMP-UNEXPECTED: (err:XPST0003) Unexpected token syntax error, unexpected DefineVariableDollar_, expecting SemiColon_
in /pragmatic/marklogic/, on line 4 [1.0-ml]

Is this something that 4.2 has introduced??
