There seems to be a problem with using GIT to handle repositories with large files. For example, I get the following errors when trying to “git add” a 3.2GB file…

$ git add Fedora-8-i386-DVD.iso error: file write error (Invalid argument) fatal: unable to write sha1 file

Adds for smaller files work fine.

I have found “git-bigfiles” but am unsure how to use it.

Any Advice?

I should mention I’m using GIT Version 1.6.6.1 under Mac OS X 10.6.2

Thanks, sjf

Hey Steven;

Sorry for the long lag between posting and responding.

This looks like an issue where you’re running out of disk-space. Git doesn’t optimize storage of binary files as effectively as it does plain-text source code. Do you have enough space to have the .iso file and a complete second copy of it?
