Digital Products

You should really include an additional chapter to add digital product support to the Depot app. I’ve been scouring the web for information on how to do this with Rails, but I have had no success. I’m looking forward to the new edition and beside covering Rails 2.0 I think this would be a great addition to the book.

What do you mean by “digital product support”? Please give a bit more detailed info about waht you want…

I think he means (sorry if I’m misspeaking Charles) support for downloaded products. For example, pragprog.com’s own download of PDF’s post-purchase.

Greg, that’s exactly what I was talking about. It seems the easiest way would be force customers to create an account and put the downloads behind authentication. The other would be to allow guests to also purchase downloads using an email and an expiring encrypted URL. I’d like to find tutorials on both techniques, but I haven’t been able to. I think the first example using user accounts would be a great addition to the depot app without having to steer too far off away from the intentions of the book.
