David Rupp is an inveterate language geek, having programmed professionally in IBM mainframe assembler language, C, C++, COBOL, Java, and Ruby. In his spare time (hah!) he explores such languages as Lisp, Haskell, and Scala, which is his current favorite. He has also studied various human languages: Spanish (he grew up in Florida), French (so he could get sneered at when he visited Paris), German (his heritage), Italian (his wife’s heritage), and Hebrew (to impress a girl (pre-wife), and because it had a completely different alphabet).

When not hacking for work or pleasure (e.g., various open source projects like Rails, XWork, JRuby, and Liftweb), David directs — and occasionally performs in — various choirs and musical theatre productions. He also writes neo-classical music for a cappella choir.

Oh, and he’s also getting his Master’s Degree in Computer Science from the University of Colorado at Denver.

Most importantly, though, David is husband of one and father of five, ranging in age (the kids, not the wife) from 21 down to 2. “Never a dull moment,” would be David’s motto, if he had time for one.
