LLVM is the way to go, more modern than GCC and nicer license.

I’d buy a good LLVM book especially if it included CLANG (Apple’s new compilers) or one that was good enough to help me bootstrap my own language on LLVM.

@Andy - there’s a tutorial on llvm’s site that shows how to develop “kaleidoscope”. A simple language with if/for flow controls as well as some optimization techniques. Highly recommended while all of us await the book ,)
