So i am having problems connecting the a pushbutton to my board. for one thing, does the pushbutton HAVE to cross the boards middle gap?

i picked up the pushbuttons from radioshack and the pins/legs on them seem so short i dont understand how this connection will take place. im also seeing that when i try to use the simple pushbutton circuit in chp 3, i get no response on the SMD led of arduino. when i lift the button away from the breadboard, i actually get the built in led to light momentarily.

what have i messed up?

Steven:

You did not mess anything up. I did and I am very sorry!

I have clarified the issue in a separate forum entry: http://forums.pragprog.com/forums/129/topics/8551

I am also sorry for the late reply, but there were some technical issues with the forum software.
