I’ve bought Hello Android book a month ago and went through Sudoku example. It is by far the best Android programming book I’ve seen.

When I tried the codes in 3.4 section, I could switch the portrait to landscape correctly. But when I continued to press Ctrl+F11 to switch display from landscape to portrait, display was not correct. I ran it on screen simulator 2.3. How to fix it? Thank in advance.

Shen

Hi Shen,

It’s a simulator problem. Nothing wrong with the book or with your code.

You can use the Android 2.2 simulator or the 4.0 simulator. I don’t believe they have the problem.

Hi Ed,

I was using Android 2.3.3 simulator when I started the book. I also get the same problem of the app shutting down. After seeing your post, I have tried using 2.0 and 4.0 simulators but still get the same problem of having to do a force stop after pressing Ctrl+F11.

Any advise would be appreciated.

Thank you Alan Birtle

Hi Ed,

Very sorry about my last post.

It was entirely my own fault.

It was a typo in the layout-land.xls file. I used a lower-case ‘t’ in the line TableLayout declarations.

Thanks Alan.

No sweat, that’s one of the most common problems people run into. I wish there was a Lint rule to catch it.
