I was interested in writing a book on AWK. I am familiar with LaTeX and will probably use it. I am also hoping to set up a workflow that will allow me to run all my examples automatically and incorporate their output.

What I am interested in, though, is if anyone has a good package or can recommend a good package for such a book. Ideally it would include a nice font, a nice environment for setting code examples and a nice environment for setting ‘screen shots’ (not really screen shots, but something that looks like a terminal).

I am familiar with packages such as listings, but it would be nice to have a complete environment.

Martin, Not sure if it’s precisely what you seek, but you may be interested in tufte-latex: http://code.google.com/p/tufte-latex

Docbook and db2latex might solve this, as Docbook has markup for programlisting and screen (code and “screenshots”) respectively.

FWIW, I use Docbook and XSL-FO, because I never learned LaTeX.
