So, in the book you talk about UIDocument’s saveless model and note that by incrementing the change count, you signal to the system that the document has unsaved changes.

The examples in the book though all seem to explicitly save with the ‘save for overwriting’ option.

Why is that? Is there something wrong with the saveless model?

I have used the “explicit approach” because in most cases I needed the completion handler. Since there is no control on when an updated document is uploaded to iCloud you can consider saveToURL:forSaveOperation:completionHandler: and updateChangeCount equivalent.
