OK, so, we are at Ember 2.8 (that, btw, it’s a LTS just like 2.4) but as I can understand from other posts, we still don’t have any news about an update release of the book, right?

Matthew, any news of an update, or is this an abandoned book? I am just asking because, if the latter, I would prefer to spend my time on other resourses (I already bought the book when it was already obsolete, hoping in an update) rather waiting for an update never coming.

Thanks in advance for your reply, Giuseppe

Giuseppe,

First, thanks for checking in. The short answer is that I do plan to update the book for the 2.8 LTS, and future LTS releases, until the next major release, which will likely be a more comprehensive update. I can’t say when the 2.8 revision will come out, as I’m just getting started on it, but hopefully it will be within the next two months.

Thanks,

Matt

Matthew, thanks for your reply. I understand that writing (updating) a book and living at the same time is pretty hard, but for what I read so far in your book, it will worth waiting for an update. Only, be aware that in December (in best cases) there will be a new LTS (2.12?) accordingly to Ember LTS roadmap

Please, keep us update. Knowing is better than supposing.

Take care, Giuseppe

Hi Matthew, Any ETA on book update? I guess you know Ember 2.10 with Glimmer 2 is out, don’t you? I would really like to get it for December. Can I help you in any way? Do you need reviewers? Editors? Just ask, my pleasure.

I’d like to know as well. I purchased the book last year and then my boss wanted to move to React, but lately, I’m interested in Ember again. Thanks!

I’m gratified by your interest, but to answer your question, I don’t have an ETA right now. I’m working on the revisions when I’m able to find the time. For the most part I’m focusing on making sure the book is correct when using the 2.8 LTS version of the framework, rather than trying to keep up with each new feature as they are added. Those will likely all end up in a new edition, rather than a minor revision like I’m working on.

Thanks,

Matt

Thank you Matthew. Since 2.8 is a LTS, it makes sense. We are all eager to put our hands on the new version. :)

Hi, we all know writing a book is hard, but we are realising that keeping it up to date is even harder. Will we ever get an update of the book?

Sincerely, Giuseppe.

Yes, I’m working through a revision now that I plan to turn in a week or two after the 2.12 LTS release. Then the production process will do its thing, so it should be out in May. That’s my best guess.

Hi Matthew! Woah, time flies! :) Are those lazy gerbils working on your book for releasing its second and finally usable incarnation? Do you need a technical reviewer? ;)

Jokes apart, always take my words as a gentle nudge.

Giuseppe

It’s still May, Giuseppe :) I need to re-read the whole thing one more time to make sure everything syncs up, and that I didn’t break the index, then I will turn it in. The revisions were relatively light. Here’s a current, subject-to-change summary if you’re curious:

  • Using JSONAPIAdapter/Serializer
  • Replaced HTTP Mocks with Mirage
  • No more use of Ember CLI pods
  • More consistent use of ES 2015
  • Addressed all errata

Thanks for your patience.

Hello, Matthew

Hopefully all’s going well with the book update!

I realize Ember has been on a technical rollercoaster ride while you’ve been trying to keep it up to date.

Keeping fingers crossed till I receive a notification from pragprogs about an update ;)
