Hi -

I just followed the books windows instructions for installing rails using gem on my windows 10 machine (gem install rails –version=5.0.0.1 –no-ri –no-rdoc) and got the following error:

Temporarily enhancing PATH to include DevKit… Building native extensions. This could take a while… ERROR: Error installing rails: ERROR: Failed to build gem native extension.

C:/Ruby22/bin/ruby.exe -r ./siteconf20161205-9560-4r0wec.rb extconf.rb creating Makefile

make “DESTDIR=” clean

make “DESTDIR=”

make failed, uncaught signal 11

Gem files will remain installed in C:/Ruby22/lib/ruby/gems/2.2.0/gems/websocket-driver-0.6.4 for inspection. Results logged to C:/Ruby22/lib/ruby/gems/2.2.0/extensions/x64-mingw32/2.2.0/websocket-driver-0.6.4/gem_make.out

Here is my relevant gem env output:

RubyGems Environment: - RUBYGEMS VERSION: 2.4.5.1 - RUBY VERSION: 2.2.5 (2016-04-26 patchlevel 319) [x64-mingw32] - INSTALLATION DIRECTORY: C:/Ruby22/lib/ruby/gems/2.2.0 - RUBY EXECUTABLE: C:/Ruby22/bin/ruby.exe - EXECUTABLE DIRECTORY: C:/Ruby22/bin - SYSTEM CONFIGURATION DIRECTORY: C:/ProgramData - RUBYGEMS PLATFORMS: - ruby - x64-mingw32 - GEM PATHS: - C:/Ruby22/lib/ruby/gems/2.2.0 - GEM CONFIGURATION: - :update_sources => true - :verbose => true - :backtrace => false - :bulk_threshold => 1000 - :sources => [“http://rubygems.org”] - REMOTE SOURCES: - http://rubygems.org

Looked around for a solution but could not fix it. Does anyone else have the same issue currently or know a resolution?

Thanks! –Nick

I know that this doesn’t answer your question directly, but I installed Rails on my windows 10 machine using railsinstaller (railsinstaller.org). I haven’t had any issues with it, and it also installs the git bash shell, which I prefer to the windows command line.
