When I run…

test -e .ssh/id_dsa_pub || ssh-keygen -t dsa

I get…

Generating public/private dsa key pair.
Enter file in which to save the key (/home/user/.ssh/id_dsa):

Is this where I enter the concatenation command or should I be putting something else here?

cat .ssh/id_dsa.pub >> .ssh/authorized_keys2

When I enter the concatenation command at this prompt, I get the following…

Entering passphrase (empty for no passphrase):

However, when I enter a passphrase, I get the following…

open cat .ssh/id_dsa.pub >> .ssh/authorized_keys2 failed: No such file or directory.
Saving the key failed: cat .ssh/id_dsa.pub >> .ssh/authorized_keys2.

I apologize if these are elementary linux questions. I’m new to linux, but I have managed to make it this far with no GUI. :)

It appears that the problem is that I don’t have SSH installed on my server. If you run across this issue, simply do the following command.

sudo apt-get install ssh
